CRISPR, Europe, Energy and Entrepreneurship
“Time flies when you have fun,” they say. It seems like the year began yesterday, and now 9/12 of it is almost over.
What happened in the recent months:
CRISPR, Gene-Editing, and Reinventing Modern Medicine
The genome revolution is one of the most important in the history of mankind because it encompasses all the scientific and technological advances that revolve around the study of the human genome. The purpose of these advances is primarily to extend the life of human beings and to promote a better quality of life.
Ark Funds has issued an ETF focusing on the Genomics Revolution and described their investment approach in a 2020 White Paper.
In brief, since the decoding of the human genome, scientists are developing solutions to tackle 3 areas:
Synthetic Biology - Gene Editing, DNA Sequencing
Diagnostics
Agriculture
The genomic revolution toolkit will advance modern medicine and diagnostics and help increase the output of agriculture.
One part that pops up frequently when someone is interested in investing in this area is CRISPR.
Here is a CRISPR encyclopedia for every non-scientist who wants to understand the area better, to make more informed investment decisions.

Europe and Energy
The clearest way ordinary European citizens will be impacted is through energy bills becoming much higher, especially in the next six months or so, because there is a bit of a delayed passthrough of cost to the consumer. This isn’t the only way this crisis might affect people. One response to this crisis might be to lower industrial consumption of natural gas. This could mean lower economic activity, higher levels of unemployment and even greater potential for recession. A recession already is the base case assumed by our economists for Europe. It’s not an easy process to go through winter without the main fuel that keeps the lights on.
At this time of the year, it is challenging not to tackle the topics of Europe and Energy.
Since parts of Europe have decided on Russian gas as a cornerstone of energy supply, the delivery shutdown hurts the economy.
In what ways and solutions to the situation describe Goldman Sachs in this Article:
